Programs
Our  programs, projects, and community events are based on the following key areas of endeavor:

The Arts
Provides enrichment experiences in language, visual and performing arts for local youngsters. The Tacoma Links provide experiences designed to increase their awareness and appreciation.

International Trends and Services
Seeks to increase awareness of global concerns, to understand and appreciate other cultures, and to render assistance that will make a significant difference in the quality of life of others. The focus is Africa. The Chapter adopted the village of Amazu Ikpakwu in Nigeria and elected to fulfill a crucial need - a permanent source of pure, potable water. We also supply books, school supplies, first aid items, and prescription eyeglasses. In addition, we are nearing completion of a community center.

National Trends and Services
Addresses an array of issues and needs that disproportionately affect African Americans from health screening for diabetes to organ and tissue donation education, breast cancer awareness, and nutrition. This facet also promotes activities that celebrate African American history, heritage, culture and current issues, such as homelessness, and programs promoting healthier living, mind, body and soul.

Services to Youth
Provides experiences in the area of self-esteem, education, citizenship and life skills. Programs include tutoring classes to increase SAT and WASL scores which encourage academic excellence; and the Youth and Law Forum where students interact positively with professional community role models, and present skits involving life encounters with the law, role-play as judges, lawyers and correctional officers. The Annual Spelling Bee is a major event with teams from schools, churches, and community organizations competing for cash prizes as they learn poise and communication skills that will help them throughout life.

Health and Human Services
The Health and Human Services facet was established in response to the chronic health disparities that persist in our communities and result in the decreased life expectancy of African-Americans. This new facet brings greater focus, resources, and coordination to our health initiatives already in existence. The mission of the Health and Human Services facet is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources.
